Manners

The road to life Criminals

Good hearts – yet brutality

My holiday

Lyward’s school moderate delinquents

But they are all basically the same as we are.

What we did at Finchden [Manor]–

Our impressions

Good manners

Good morning

What is the point of good manners?

Ease provides a convention

Who goes first etc

Creation if good relationships

Shows the way

(it can be false – a hiding)

Think of yourself at a meeting - a party – a conference

A good mannered welcome – introduction

Value as a habit – not having to think it out every time.

Offering seats in a bus

The sports girl etc

The old - the tired

The pregnant

The overloaded

Not only women

Best - being observant – but the next best thing is habit.

Foundation of good manners is good feeling towards people – interest in them.

But rules have always been necessary (Israelites and strangers)

Children and adults

Visitors – strangers come first

What do we do with a visitor?

Ask name

Appointment

Sit down

Going through doors, etc.

Preceding or otherwise in corridors

Guests (last night at supper)

Nothing wrong with girls! – but the crowd!.

Hence the RULE.

But must be observant because of effect of the crowd (“someone else will do it”)

Good manners among yourselves. You cant really live in two worlds.

If you are foul to each other your manners toward staff will be insincere.

We have a good reputation –

Based too much on girls? I don’t know.
